The Woodmeister Story – A Little History
Woodmeister Master Builders began in 1980 when Ted Goodnow convinced his parents to give him the money they had set aside for his college education so that he could start a woodworking business. While still a teenager and with a two-year cabinet and furniture-making apprenticeship under his tool belt, Goodnow opened a sole proprietorship on Worcester’s Piedmont Street. When joined by his older brother a year later, the business became Goodnow Brothers, and the two craftsmen began carving out a niche in the commercial and residential millwork and cabinetry market. After landing their first big kitchen contract, they were forced to move to larger quarters on Beacon Street, so they could complete the job. The company has grown unabated ever since.
In 1983, Goodnow purchased his brother’s share of the business, and changed its name to Woodmeister Corporation. Joined by his wife, Kim, in 1986, Goodnow gave up the hands-on work of the business and devoted all of his time to managing and developing the company. Since then, Woodmeister has evolved into a nationally-renowned, multi-million dollar company and an unsurpassed leader in the affluent residential construction market.
The Next Chapter – More Growth and Innovation
For over two decades, Woodmeister's home was 62 Washington Street in Worcester. In October 2006, to accommodate its growing business and make room for further expansion, the company relocated its headquarters to nearby Holden. The move consolidated the firm’s central Massachusetts offices and all manufacturing divisions under one roof. Conveniently situated in Holden's modern Industrial Park, the state-of-the-art facility streamlines production and customer services, allowing the company to continue to offer its discerning customers cutting edge craftsmanship and superior value. Woodmeister also has offices in Nantucket and Portsmouth, RI.
Also in 2006, the firm changed its name to Woodmeister Master Builders, reflecting its comprehensive construction capabilities and exceptional quality standards. Today, with over 180 employees, Woodmeister Master Builders encompasses the entire scope of luxury custom home renovation, restoration, expansion, and construction projects; finely crafted heirloom-class millwork and cabinetry; and complete lifestyle management services. After raising the threshold of quality and craftsmanship in the luxury home market, Woodmeister continues to lead the way by building strong customer relationships that last a lifetime.
